Christianity was founded upon the apparitions or visions of Paul. The disciples of Jesus distanced themselves from him. James the just took over for 30 years after his brother Jesus died. Sadly scripture seems to divide, more than unite people. Did Jesus not go through all this with the Pharisees and Sadducees? Was He not always trying to make them see that the laws in the bible were much less important than demonstrating love and tolerance? God is Love and God is Life. What ever happened to joy? Beauty of creation? Why focus on negative stuff all the time? Love your enemies, love those who persecute you, THIS was the message. THIS is the Christian example. Pray for them. How many have achieved this state? To truly love everyone? I think we should stop pointing out the specks in our neighbour’s eyes and concentrate on the logs in our own. If someone prays the rosary earnestly, I’m sure that’s just fine by God, no one loved Jesus more than his mother Mary. Scripture tells us that God said she was “blessed” “the Lord is with thee” the King James Bible tells us that the angel Gabriel and Mary’s cousin Elisabeth said these things, the prayer to Mary recited in the rosary simply quotes the bible directly, and most importantly, includes the Lord’s Prayer.

Catholics do not “worship” or adore Mary –they honour and venerate her. Let’s face it, she is an excellent example to follow. Most of us are nowhere near close to attaining an ounce of her holiness. And we all know that the love and bond between a mother and son is special. Do you really think God would be annoyed by this?! Is it better to focus and meditate on the Old Testament, an eye for an eye and all that, revenge on enemies – which was debunked by Christ’s message, and then call ourselves Christian? Jesus fulfilled the scriptures. He had the last word.
As far as the warning of repetition is concerned, in Matthew 6:7; the important phrase here is “as the heathen do” – this refers to chants for example, to Ba’al etc NOT repetition of scripture/ meditating upon biblical lines, or thoughts of God/love, which can transport people into the very silence required to commune directly with the Lord and help clear the mind of earthly thoughts/ worries.

Lol Thanks Hugo, you really do have a wonderful sense of humour, I’m glad to see you haven’t lost it 🙂 I really enjoy your take on current affairs, and I respect the spiritual journey you’re on. I’m not into organised religion either, but some are, and that’s okay too.
That’s the danger here, as I see it – becoming narrow minded, cold and humourless. That, and bickering over who is “right” all the time.
I love reading the comments from everyone, such a varied and fascinating array of opinions, but sadly, what I do not see practiced often enough is tolerance. The path to salvation may be narrow, but one’s mind need not be.
Many commenters here spend too much time arguing over the identity of the “enemy” – m@sons, jesuits, the Scotch… etc but what does it really matter, when, from a Christian perspective, the instruction was only to love them? And as far as olde Nick is concerned, the KJB informs us he has been beaten:- ” In the world ye shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Sadly scripture seems to divide, more than unite people. Did Jesus not go through all this with the Pharisees and Sadducees? Was He not always trying to make them see that the laws in the bible were much less important than demonstrating love and tolerance? God is Love and God is Life. What ever happened to joy? Beauty of creation? Why focus on negative stuff all the time? Love your enemies, love those who persecute you, THIS was the message. THIS is the Christian example. Pray for them. How many have achieved this state? To truly love everyone? I think we should stop pointing out the specks in our neighbour’s eyes and concentrate on the logs in our own. We all have enough to be getting along with lol.
If someone prays the rosary earnestly, I’m sure that’s just fine by God, no one loved Jesus more than his mother Mary. Scripture tells us that God said she was “blessed” “the Lord is with thee” the King James Bible tells us that the angel Gabriel and Mary’s cousin Elisabeth said these things, the prayer to Mary recited in the rosary simply quotes the bible directly, and most importantly, includes the Lord’s Prayer.

Catholics do not “worship” or adore Mary –they honour and venerate her. Let’s face it, she is an excellent example to follow. Most of us are nowhere near close to attaining an ounce of her holiness. And we all know that the love and bond between a mother and son is special. Do you really think God would be annoyed by this?! Is it better to focus and meditate on the Old Testament, an eye for an eye and all that, revenge on enemies – which was debunked by Christ’s message, and then call ourselves Christian? Jesus fulfilled the scriptures. He had the last word.
As far as the warning of repetition is concerned, in Matthew 6:7; the important phrase here is “as the heathen do” – this refers to chants for example, to Ba’al etc NOT repetition of scripture/ meditating upon biblical lines, or thoughts of God/love, which can transport people into the very silence required to commune directly with the Lord and help clear the mind of earthly thoughts/ worries.
Discernment, as you are always reminding people of Hugo, is required here. I think if we just concentrate on LOVE and tolerance, we can’t go far wrong. Peace x

While I agree altering scriptures is wrong. We have altered it, with 100+ translations in different languages alone.
Removing God’s gender. (Wrong) Among many other thing’s happening.
Removing/replacing text without a margin note, or reference. Creates problems.
