On a less biblical level i often ponder the realities of vast tracts of land being occupied exclusively by thousands of these particular animals which don’t have the wider scope contributions to the foodchains as maybe cattle.Yes there’s certain amounts of dairy to harvest but nowhere near the levels of holsteins and Friesians for example? l believe UK sheep and lamb is coveted elsewhere in the world and commands the higher prices thus putting them beyond most indigenous wallets.

We’ve an enormous amount of a natural and a valuable product, and no government come out with an idea to find a proper use for it, while sheep’s wool is rotting away in compost heaps in farmer’s yards. It is fair to say, that if the ‘powers in charge’ really did care about the environment, wool, the ultimate environmentally positive fibre: historically used for clothing, carpets, insulation, handcrafts etc., would be sought after and promoted massively , and especially by the wool board. Currently apparently it’s not even worth the diesel to take it to the local depot and if I did, the payment wouldn’t cover the shearing costs….. Hmm, I wonder why they promote rock wool and man-made fibres…. money, it always comes down to what the most money can be made from.
