Hi E. Once again I agree with you and have very many unanswered questions about the upcoming coronation and just cannot get excited about it. As for the priests – they look to be Greek Orthodox and I am wondering why they are involved? The Church building in question is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre which has been the traditional site of the crucifixion and resurrection since Queen Helena (Constantine’s mother) determined it to be so in the 4th century. Today the building is shared by six denominations (which do not include Anglicans) and they are anything but united and even fight – a real picture of what the church should not be! I see that some of the things happening in the short video involved some form of liturgy or ritual at ‘the stone of anointing’. This is traditionally the place where Jesus was anointed for burial, but that tradition only dates back to the crusader period and the current stone only placed there just over 200 years ago. Today many thousands of people come and weep and worship at that stone and it seems to be a place of idolatry. I see the Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem taking part in this ritual but have no idea what they are doing or why? The whole event seems to be a mixture of man made tradition to somehow try and authenticate what is to take place in London.
When I was in Jerusalem and visiting all the holy sistes, I was surprised that the Roman Catholic Church didn’t look after any of the sites. Hi E. Once again I agree with you and have very many unanswered questions about the upcoming coronation and just cannot get excited about it. As for the priests – they look to be Greek Orthodox and I am wondering why they are involved? The Church building in question is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre which has been the traditional site of the crucifixion and resurrection since Queen Helena (Constantine’s mother) determined it to be so in the 4th century. Today the building is shared by six denominations (which do not include Anglicans) and they are anything but united and even fight – a real picture of what the church should not be! I see that some of the things happening in the short video involved some form of liturgy or ritual at ‘the stone of anointing’. This is traditionally the place where Jesus was anointed for burial, but that tradition only dates back to the crusader period and the current stone only placed there just over 200 years ago. Today many thousands of people come and weep and worship at that stone and it seems to be a place of idolatry. I see the Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem taking part in this ritual but have no idea what they are doing or why? The whole event seems to be a mixture of man made tradition to somehow try and authenticate what is to take place in London.
