This article reminded me of a recent experience of my own. I downloaded an image documenting the Canadian Trucker’s Convoy otherwise known as the Freedom Convoy to use for a book cover. The lead truck in the image had a banner on its roof with “END ALL MANDATES” printed on it in bold letters.
I used Photoshop to remove those letters, putting the title of my book in their place. However, in the process of removing the original words from that banner, I found artifacts effectively underneath the letters proving to me that the original picture was doctored. It was a telling reminder that truly all the world’s a stage.

I’m an amateur (but pretty good) photographer…and (an even better) editor. Anyone who uses photoshop can see exactly which tools they have used…and how badly they have used them.
Most of the ‘historical’ photos we see now have been ‘doctored’, but unless you know what to look for you can be fooled…and they have been fooling people for a long time now.
Photoshop makes it easier. Where before, you had to look at angles of light and focus, now you look at those aspects plus the equivalent effect of a digital pencil rubber.
It’s so badly done that it makes me wonder if it is deliberate.
