People should be allowed to choose for themselves who they feel is genuine. We are all different and should be able to express different viewpoints. Who is to say what is the right thing to do or say. To say that everything is black or white or a person is totally good or bad is just like the state trying to oppress us. There’s always grey areas in between. It shouldn’t be about picking one side or the other.The important thing is to still question things, to have free will and not to be forced to do anything against your will. Totally agree. It’s a shame, as there genuinely seems nobody or nothing that we can trust or have belief in. I recently listened to an audiobook, 3 hours long, called “‘Asbestos Head’, written by Eric Dubay, which I found very thought provoking but somewhat disillusioning and bleak, but helps with these times, for me anyway. He wrote it when he was 20 years old and seemingly before he was a flat Earth proponent. However, he may well be a disinformation agent too, according to some people, though I wonder if there is such a thing as disinformation, only information that is either truth or lies. Just like in our everyday lives, as soon as a person is revealed as a liar, then all future opinions or stories from them have to be taken with a pinch of salt.

I agree with Robert. I personally didn’t find anything contradictory between Neil Oliver’s tribute to the Queen and his other piece. It’s an inescapable fact that the Queen is one of the longest serving monarchs of all time. In adding “long may she reign”, I think he’s expressing his personal admiration for the Queen’s tenure as an individual, and not just in her office as the head of state. That’s his perogative to do so. I personally think it’s useful to have the institution of the monarchy as a counterpoint to the political state. Perhaps, like a Hegelian dialectic, the two institutions have the capacity for “checks and balances” in preventing the tyranny of absolute rule, which we have seen both in historical feudal kingdoms and in modern day republics. I recall many anti-lockdown protesters appealing to the police to remember their oath to serve the Queen and the people, and not the political state, as likewise the armed forces also pledge to serve the Queen. I think that without such a counterpoint we would have seen in the UK even more tyrannical regulations and enforcement over the last two years than we did. In a republic the police may very well just pledge unfettered allegiance to the political state, and without any convention of “policing by consent”. I don’t wish to see such a system in the UK.

I recently listened to an audiobook, 3 hours long, called “‘Asbestos Head’, written by Eric Dubay, which I found very thought provoking but somewhat disillusioning and bleak, but helps with these times, for me anyway. He wrote it when he was 20 years old and seemingly before he was a flat Earth proponent. However, he may well be a disinformation agent too, according to some people, though I wonder if there is such a thing as disinformation, only information that is either truth or lies. Just like in our everyday lives, as soon as a person is revealed as a liar, then all future opinions or stories from them have to be taken with a pinch of salt.

I agree with Robert. I personally didn’t find anything contradictory between Neil Oliver’s tribute to the Queen and his other piece. It’s an inescapable fact that the Queen is one of the longest serving monarchs of all time. In adding “long may she reign”, I think he’s expressing his personal admiration for the Queen’s tenure as an individual, and not just in her office as the head of state. That’s his perogative to do so. I personally think it’s useful to have the institution of the monarchy as a counterpoint to the political state. Perhaps, like a Hegelian dialectic, the two institutions have the capacity for “checks and balances” in preventing the tyranny of absolute rule, which we have seen both in historical feudal kingdoms and in modern day republics. I recall many anti-lockdown protesters appealing to the police to remember their oath to serve the Queen and the people, and not the political state, as likewise the armed forces also pledge to serve the Queen. I think that without such a counterpoint we would have seen in the UK even more tyrannical regulations and enforcement over the last two years than we did. In a republic the police may very well just pledge unfettered allegiance to the political state, and without any convention of “policing by consent”. I don’t wish to see such a system in the UK.
