@videoman I was actually referring to Second Life in my post further above. Sorry for the confusion. I should have clarified it a bit better. In that environment what happens is parcels of virtual land are sold off to users such as you and me by the game developers. These are referred to as sims , short for simulations. They look like a huge jigsaw puzzle when you look at the whole SL map. People and animations need a lot of software scripts to run their avatars , trees , flowing water and particle effects etc. Too many people on any one sim and you get too much lag. Eventually the sim will crash in the same way servers do when too many people download at the same time.
